Microsoft finally gets modules, Apple gives back, run while you work and the lengths people will go to

posted Wed 08 Jun 05
You gotta love a tryer. The underdog usually musters the most support from a maddening crowd, except maybe when they are Microsoft. Microsoft are tired of being second to Apache in the web server market, and when Longhorn releases sometime in 2020, it will come with a new modular based approach to allow people to load in only the components they use. *slaps forehead* a ball-bouncingly stupendous idea! Why hasn't anyone thought of that before? Welcome to the party Microsoft. They say this is going to make them "supercompetitive to Apache". Not to burst any bubbles, no it won't. Unless IIS for Linux makes a debut, that ship Mr Balmer has sailed.

We reported a wee while ago about how Apple was maybe not playing the open source game in the spirit it was intended regarding its Safari web browser. Well, looks like they listened and readdressed this whole affair by releasing an updated stance on open source and a new development toolkit, including developer mailing lists and CVS access. Well, they need all the help they can muster now they are moving to Apptel (nod to Doc Searl for that phrase).

When was the last time you got some excercise? Chances are, if you are reading this, your planted firmly on your back side with little leg excercise except for the odd occassional footsie game with the cutie sitting oppposite. What happens when you take a treadmill and strap a workstation to it? A whole new fitness workout that will have the trendy gyms lap'top'ping it up.

Finally, have you ever felt you were too close to the ground? Not able to reach up to the lofty heights of those non vertically challenged people? Well the latest craze in China is to get your legs lengthened! Apparently this increases your job chances as well; taller people get more jobs! This really puts a new spin on the phrase "the lengths people will go to" for a job!
