New Zealand, such a wonderful country by all accounts. While they provided the stunning backdrop for the 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy, just don't be doing any word processing down there. Microsoft has successfully filed their XML patent there, having failed to do it pretty much every where else in the world, US included. Lets hope the NZ Open Source Society can help bring some reason to the patent office to throw this out.

Wait till you hear this one, that seems to have Microsoft playing both sides of the game. Rumor has it that Microsoft are going to begin developing software that will run on open source platforms, according to the head of OSDL. Okay time out here people. Does the whole thing with the Greeks and their wooden horse and Troy ring any bells?

Speaking of New Zealand, it would appear the Shire has got itself a little wireless security problem; in the sense there is none! A quick drive around the major corporations shows lots of open WIFI networks just itching for a hobbit to sneek in under the radar.

Finally, what better way to relax after a hard day at the orifice than a nice long soak in a big steaming bath. Picture it if you will, bubbles up to your armpits, candles dotted around the room, possibly some relaxing whale music, and of course your Bluetooth phone! Well how else are you going to control the whole experience? With hot and cold taps?! I think not. Check out the latest bathroom luxury device to hit the market from Brazil.

NZOSS Files Objection to Microsoft XML Patent

The New Zealand Open Source Society has filed its objection to a Microsoft XML patent filed in New Zealand amid international moves to reject it elsewhere. "Microsoft has received a patent from the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) that covers 'Word processing document stored in a single XML file that may be manipulated by applications that understand XML.'
