An Evolution on Windows, PHP 10th birthday, Sun delivers the Lords message and SuperGran

posted Thu 09 Jun 05
Tor Lillqvist is on a mission, to bring the popular Evolution email/calendaring application to Microsoft Windows. He warns that its no where near ready yet for any sort of mass contribution and by the looks of the screenshots on his blog, he's right. While Evolution is pitching itself up against Outlook as its main competitor, Mozilla's Thunderbird will take a bit of beating. But more choice in the email client space; we welcome the efforts.

We are getting old, the Internet is getting old. Yesterday, PHP celebrated its 10th year in public form. Thanks to Google, there is a link to the original email announcing it to on Zak Greant's blog. So 1995 was the year for the birth of languages; PHP, CFML and of course Java. Although it's interesting to observe how both PHP and CFML are enjoying a new growth in their populatarity.

Big changes down in Vatican City; new boss new software. Seems the big cheese has chosen Sun for its Directory and Messaging software, citing that Solaris has proven itself the most reliable platform for delivery the Lords messages. So there you go, next time a Sun engineer tells you he is doing the Lord's work; he might actually be telling the truth!

Speaking of age and all things divine, a new robotic suit from Japan will help us in our old age that enables you to life heavy items or climb stairs. From the pictures it doesn't look that clumsy either. I can imagine this will continue to decrease in size. The article notes that Japan has been doing a lot more innovation towards the needs of the elderly as its population begins to age. I welcome all of this, they have around 30-40 years before I will be requiring some sort of aid, and the more things I can hook myself into the better!
