There has been much talk about how Sun will be open sourcing Java and more importantly what type of license it will be open sourced under. It would appear that Sun hasn't taken off the table the possibility of GPL.
Many see this license as the most restrictive of all the licenses, claiming it to be the virus-license, anything it touches must also be open sourced under GPL. However, this would put Java into the camp of the likes of Linux and MySQL. It would still allow Sun to pull a MySQL and charge for a commercial license of Java.
The only downside here, would be the in ability to ship a JVM with your application as the license wouldn't permit this unless your own code was GPL. You would have to ask people to obtain it independently.
