It is not often you see a "Server Error" when you goto Google, but that is what you are likely to receive if you attempt to access thier new GoogleBase project. Rumours have it this is Google's answer to the likes of eBay and community sites like CraigLists. The official line so far, (or official word since they haven't said that much) is that it will be used to store anything and will be linked into to the Google Local Search. It will be interesting to see how far this service goes. This could be their opportunity to unleash their new payment system, because an auction site without any payment mechanism is really just a web page! We'll watch with interest as Google moves into yet another area of the Internet.
Joe Barr over at Linux.com writes up his experience with one of the oldest Linux distributions available, Slackware. This was my first introduction to Linux many many years ago, but I left it behind for the ease of Redhat. Joe is quick to point out that the latest Slackware is still without all the bells'n'whistles of the modern distributions, including a lack of dependency support for installation tools. But by in large thats its strength; you have full control over every aspect of this, legendary very stable operating system. That said though, loyalty seems to be playing a big factor into the continued use of Slackware. In a quick poll taken as to why they continue to use it, the man at the top, Pat Volkerding, was the reason they continued to use Slackware.
