Slashdot is hosting a good interview with Bill Hilf, Microsoft's Linux Lab Manager. The interview has been processed by the PR engine of Microsoft before hand, but the answers still read very well. It is particularly interesting to note the answer to the question about if any of the top-level execs have used Linux. They have and when they do come out with stuff like "Hey, that problem was solved five years ago - is that it?".Dan Farber writes over at ZDNET about Oracle's session at LinuxWorld regarding on demand computing. Apparently the speaker was in a visible rush to get things moving along, which is funny, because the speaker at OSBC in April was also in a visibly rush to get through their talk. Maybe they have a sweep stake running in the canteen as who can finish their regulation slides in the shortest time.
Our very own SpikeSource engineer, Matt Harrison, has written up an overview of the recent Open Source Conference up in Portland, Oregon. Matt goes through his notes picking out some nice gems, including the wee slip from Schwartz on open sourcing Java to Roml noting that the only difference between poetry and prose was 'whitespace'.
The Space Shuttle has successfully landed back to earth with no problems reported. Tensions where a little higher than normal as this was the most crucial time of the whole space flight; re-entering the Earth's atmosphere. The BBC site has a wonderful right up of the whole thing, including an interesting piece on how the shuttle makes its journey home, including flying upside down at 16,000 mph!
