Sun has released 5 security patches for the 1.5 Java runtime. 4 of the 5 effect your normal desktop users, as they allowed untrusted applets to gain access to the local system and then do untold amounts of damage. Normally you have to accept a security certificate before an applet can run outside of its sandbox.
A rather enterprising chap in Wales, has come up with a device, Mosquito, that emits an annoying high frequency sound that only young people can hear. The device is being trialed at some shops where youths hang around loitering and causing discomfort to normal patrons. It relies on the fact that as we grow older, our ears lose the ability to hear high end frequencies. Although, this isn't a new idea by any stretch. The FBI once famously used bag pipe music to try and break the WACO incident.
Following on from yesterdays news that romance doesn't last any more than 12 months, UK researchers have found that creative types are luckier when it comes to love. Dr Daniel Nettle was quoted "Creative types lead a bohemian lifestyle and tend to act on more impulses and opportunities, often purely for experience's sake, than the average person would.". Well this is at least some good news - "Oh darling, come and see the painting I have just finished while I was composing a sonet to you"

Next time you put on your silly party hat, give a little thought to one of the origins of this. By dressing up, you are attempting to guise yourself as the devil and thus discouraging the real one from making an appearance and threatening the survival of the sun.
