Following on from yesterday's Microsoft interview over at Slashdot, its amusing to see Microsoft conceding to the fact they are indeed the 'dark side' by donning Star Wars costumes as they make up a team at the LinuxWorld quiz.Engadget is reporting on a very cool project from IBM called SoulPad. This takes session persistence to the next level. Instead of simply taking your 'user data' with you on the road, you take the complete desktop with you, including the applications you have open and the state they have. Think of it like hibernating your desktop and then taking it to another machine. Very cool. Fraught with danger, but very interesting nonetheless.
Groklaw has a good round up of the recent OSDL announcement regarding software patents and giving them a place to live. So instead of an individual company holding onto a given patent, they will, and will marshal that for the greater good of the community. An interesting initiative and it will be intriguing to watch how it evolves over the next coming months.
And finally some said news. The head of the Ewing household has died today; yes Miss Ellie has gone to the large Southfork Ranch in the sky. Barbara Bel Geddes died at the grand old age of 82.
